Norman Conquest: Greg Norman had a six shot lead on Nick Faldo going into sunday's round several years ago. His approach shot landed one foot short of where it should have, and the ball returned back off the green to the bottom of the fairway. Approach shots and putting are the theme at Augusta. Risky shots sting the players if not executed perfectly. Norman was trying to get too close to the pin for a birdie, paid for his mistake with a double bogey. This was the beginning of the end for him. At the time, it was the biggest collapse in sports history. Last year's Yankees/Boston pennant series would eclipse that. The foreground in the picture is the typical topography of the course. Pine needles give fair lies for errant drives, as does the short rough. Trees are the only physcal impediment to errant drives.
